Stupid spam text

Just got this spam offering me to get $4.44 million for help in a financial transaction:

I am aware of the international monitoring of all large-scale financial movements after the September 11th 2001 terrorist attack on America and to avoid any state of financial investigation I will provide a classified clearance paper from the relevant body which will exonerate the money from either drug, money laundered or terrorist related proceeds.

Hm, classified clearance paper.

Impression vom Kirschenhainfest

Japan Link dump

I enjoy reading other people´s stories about their trips to Japan and viewing their photos. Here are a few interesting links:

Test post from facebook

The new facebook application Blog it, developed by Typepad´s SixApart, allows you to post short blog blurbs to various blogs - and also to twitter - directly from facebook and announce that post in your facebook mini-feed.

It seems HTML is allowed, but no editor is available.

Makes you never leave facebook again. Maybe.

Web 2.0 movie

Note to myself: Let´s find some time to watch this film. Saving it here in my blog meanwhile.

Web Monday Vienna

Yesterday I went for the first time to spend a interesting evening at Web Montag (web monday). Besides getting information on the redesign of the Web Montag website and getting a copy of the new accessibility logbuch, I chatted with several people about Facebook, Xing, panorama photography such as Harlem Gigapixels and DNS hacks. Cool!

The Fall

Uh. Another movie (or maybe only the trailer?) using one of my favorite classical music pieces: Beethoven´s symphony no. 7, II. Allegretto. Fantastic. Shocking. Used for great and also frightening scenes.

Steve Jobs

Wired has always some very good articles about Apple and in particular about Steve Jobs. Like this one from Leander Kahney - absolutely worth reading!

If there's no easy-to-find spot and he's in a hurry, Jobs has been known to pull up to Apple's front entrance and park in a handicapped space. It's become a piece of Apple lore — and a running gag at the company. Employees have stuck notes under his windshield wiper: "Park Different."

Well, actually, it turns out the articles is about management theories, leadership styles and enslavement versus empowerment. And Google versus Apple.

Review

Yesterday I´ve received a copy of the book Wikipedia - The missing manual from O´Reilly for writing a review. Cool, isn´t it?!

I started to read it - but it´s really a big book with lots of information in it. Do all reviewers actually read their books from cover to cover? Are newspaper reviews really based on the books or just on summaries or press releases from their publishers? A while ago I wrote about an upcoming movie, mentioning only a review, without having seen it yet - and was critized for that.

Reviews, on the other hand, are quite some work. A journalist for a newspaper has to spend several hours to read a book or even several days for a computer or business book and then is only paid for a few paragraphs?

Actuality and speed is another problem. New, upcoming books have to be reviewed often in the short time-span before the book is released to help create demand for that book. I doubt that journalists are really readings all the books they receive.

Anyway, I will try to read that book as fast as possible and then post a review back here.

Asian link list

Today I visited the NYT website for some of it´s asia related articles:

An interesting quote (from the frugal traveller) - after all, the NYT is a US newspaper:

But given today's strong euro, Tokyo can actually be less expensive than some major European cities (and even cheaper than New York)

Education is bad!

It this really phishing or just an ill-sent email? My mail server just sent me this:

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

the mail with the Subject 'Weiterbildung: Initiative zahlt sich aus'
(sent on Mon, 3 Dec 2007 12:35:03 UT) with the sender address
specified as '"monster.de" <feedback@monster.de>' contained a virus
known as 'Phishing.Heuristics.Email.SpoofedDomain'.
Due to this reason the Mail has not been delivered!

Your Inode-Team

Too bad. Weiterbildung zahlt sich nicht aus.
